MAYOR'S UPDATE:

WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 15

Thank you to all of the community members who came out on Monday evening for the annual September 11 remembrance ceremony. Many thanks to Councilman Scott Katz who spoke in my absence as Acting Mayor, to all who participated, and of course to Keith Gibbons for his efforts in organizing such a meaningful event to reflect and remember those we lost, including our 12 Westfield neighbors.

As a reminder, the Town Council meets on Tuesday night.

VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The deadline for voter registration in Union County is Tuesday, October 17, for the 2023 General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 7. 

Those eligible to vote can apply online, by mail, or in person in order to register. The Union County Board of Elections office is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, to accept Voter Registration Forms. On the October 17 voter registration deadline, the Board of Elections Office will remain open until 9:00 PM to receive forms. Municipal Clerk offices can also provide and accept voter registration forms.

Voter registration forms can also be downloaded from the Union County Board of Elections website. Be sure to print and sign the form before returning.

To register online, eligible residents should visit voter.svrs.nj.gov/register and follow the Online Voter Registration instructions.

We have a very important local election on November 7 so please make sure you’re registered to vote!

AddamsFest 2023

Are you ready for AddamsFest? The incredible town-wide celebration of Westfield’s own Charles Addams is returning in October for its sixth year, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Your favorite events are returning, along with some new surprises as part of this year’s WILD theme. Read all about the full line-up on their website.

You can already enter the annual Haunt Your House contest, sign up to volunteer, and – next week – purchase tickets for Charlie’s Ale Garden. And there’s much more to come. Huge thanks to AddamsFest Chair Councilwoman Mackey and her team of incredibly dedicated volunteers, led by resident Adrian Pastore, for their ongoing commitment to this annual favorite. 

Sweet Sounds Downtown Encore

Summer’s not over yet! Due to overwhelming demand, the Downtown Westfield Corporation is extending Sweet Sounds Downtown through every Friday in September! The Kolor Blynd Band that was rained out last week will be taking the stage tonight from 7:00 - 9:00 on Open Quimby. 

PBA Car Show

After being rained out on their initial date, the Westfield PBA 90/90A Car Show returns this year on Saturday, September 23! The sixth annual event will take place at the South Avenue Station lot between 9:00 and 2:00 and will feature a variety of cars and motorcycles. The Westfield Green Team is also excited to participate in this year's event to offer residents the opportunity to learn about alternative transportation options and test drive the latest electric vehicles, e-bikes, and e-scooters. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon for all ages with music, food for purchase, bounce house, rides, and much more!

Westfield PAL Flag Football Special Needs Mini-Camps

The Westfield PAL is excited to announce its upcoming Flag Football Mini-Camp Series for children with special needs on October 14, 21, and 28, from 1:30-2:15, in Tamaques Park. The program will provide 1:1 instruction while moving through stations focusing on passing, catching, rushing and defense, while allowing the children to enjoy time with their friends, neighbors, and classmates. No prior knowledge or football experience is necessary. Advance registration is required, and is available on the PAL website at  westfieldpal.org, in the Registration Information tab.

BLOCK PARTY INFORMATION

It's block party season for a few more weeks; the last day to host a block party is Monday, October 9 (Columbus Day)! Before hosting your neighborhood gathering, be sure to follow the Town's procedures to obtain all necessary approvals. You can find full details, as well as a fillable application, on our website.
